More than just temp agencies

Industry Description

This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in supplying workers to clients’ businesses for limited periods of time to supplement the workforce of the client. The individuals provided are employees of the temporary help services establishment. However, these establishments do not provide direct supervision of their employees at the clients’ work sites. Staffing employees work in all sectors–industrial, office-clerical, professional-managerial, engineering, information technology, scientific and health care.

The U.S. staffing industry has a market size of $151.8 billion, with around 16 million temporary and contract workers hired throughout the year. Temporary staffing is getting more popular; as the world embraces a new way of working, the staffing industry has shifted to setting people up to work from home and has invested in new recruitment technologies. Recent estimates predict that revenue growth in the staffing business was 2% in 2023. However, if travel nurse revenue is excluded–which is set to decline from record highs—the rest of the staffing industry is projected to grow 6% in the next year.
